Chinese authorities have finally acknowledged police action against Ai Weiwei. The news agency, Xinhua, announced that the police are “investigating him for suspected economic crimes,” but the single-sentence report was deleted shortly after it appeared and it didn’t directly refer to his detention. There is still no word on his friend Wen Tao, who has also been unreachable since his detention on the same day.
